A Healthier You... (Part 2)

3. Clean Between

It’s vital to floss your teeth every day. ‘I always say, “Only floss the teeth you want to keep”,’ says Jacinta Yeo, spokesperson for the British Dental Association. Use an up-and-down movement, wrapping the floss around your teeth in a C-shape to scrape off plaque. It’s not just about keeping healthy teeth either – mouth bacteria have been linked to heart disease, lung disease and premature birth.

4. Savour The Flavour

If you tend to overeat sometimes (and who doesn’t), one positive change you can make is to really savour every mouthful, says Susie Orbach, On Eating. She believes that if you pay attention to your food, and actually take some extra time to taste it, you’ll satisfy your hunger properly. ‘If you come to the end of your plate and you haven’t really been paying attention to what you’re eating,’ she says, “you’ll still feel hungry for the taste”

5. Put Your Feet First

‘Regularly wearing heels over 4cm high can cause your calf muscle to shorten, which is the start of lots of female foot woes,” says Lorraine Jones, a state-registered chiropodist. For future foot health, limit your heel habit to a few minutes by standing with the balls of your feet on a phone book and your heels on the floor.
